CIDB Register Process Flow

Contractor licenses are typically classified into several categories based on their capabilities, experience, and capacity to undertake construction projects. Below are the general requirements and criteria for registering contractor licenses from G1 to G7:

CIDB Register of Contractor License G1:

This license is typically for contractors who are entering the construction industry for the first time. Requirements and criteria may include:

  • Have minimum experience in the construction field, typically one year or more.
  • Have sufficient financial capital to undertake small to medium-sized projects.
  • Have adequate expertise in specific areas such as light structures or landscaping works.
  • Have basic project management skills.

CIDB Register of Contractor License G2:

This license is suitable for contractors who have some experience and skills in the construction industry. Requirements and criteria may include:

  • Several years of experience in the construction field.
  • Deeper technical skills in specific areas such as material management or construction quality.
  • Enhanced project management skills, including a deeper understanding of industry regulations.

CIDB Register of Contractor License G3:

This license is suitable for contractors who have solid experience and are capable of handling larger projects. Requirements and criteria may include:

  • Substantial experience in the construction industry, typically more than five years.
  • Strong financial capability to handle large and complex projects.
  • Good risk management skills and a deep understanding of occupational safety and health regulations.

CIDB Register of Contractor License G4:

This license is typically for contractors who have a good reputation and have completed large projects with success. Requirements and criteria may include:

  • Outstanding track record in executing complex and large-scale projects.
  • Very strong financial capability and ability to acquire necessary resources.
  • Excellent human resource management skills to handle large and diverse workforce.

CIDB Register of Contractor Licenses G5 to G7:

This license is for contractors who are prominent in the industry and capable of handling mega projects with specific characteristics. Requirements and criteria for G5 to G7 may be more stringent and specific, including outstanding performance records, substantial financial strength, sophisticated risk management, as well as the ability to undertake very large and complex projects.

Local administration or construction regulatory bodies will establish the specific requirements and criteria for each license class, and typically contractors need to meet these requirements and pass necessary exams or assessments before the license is granted.

Contractor License Criteria (G1>G7):

  1. Ownership of Company: Bumiputera-owned company.
  2. Paid-up Capital: Minimum paid-up capital of RM5,000.
  3. Work Experience: No specific experience required.
  4. Projects: Able to undertake projects with a value not exceeding RM200,000.
  1. Ownership of Company: Bumiputera-owned company.
  2. Paid-up Capital: Minimum paid-up capital of RM25,000.
  3. Work Experience: Work experience in the construction industry.
  4. Projects: Able to undertake projects with a value not exceeding RM500,000.
  1. Ownership of Company: Bumiputera-owned company.
  2. Paid-up Capital: Minimum paid-up capital of RM50,000.
  3. Work Experience: Further experience in the construction industry.
  4. Projects: Able to undertake projects with a value not exceeding RM1 million.
  1. Ownership of Company: Not limited to Bumiputera.
  2. Paid-up Capital: Minimum paid-up capital of RM150,000.
  3. Work Experience: Significant work experience in the construction industry.
  4. Projects: Able to undertake projects with a value not exceeding RM3 million.
  1. Ownership of Company: Not restricted to Bumiputera.
  2. Paid-up Capital: Minimum paid-up capital of RM250,000.
  3. Work Experience: Extensive work experience and technical competence.
  4. Projects: Capable of undertaking projects with a value not exceeding RM5 million.
  1. Ownership of Company: Not limited to Bumiputera.
  2. Paid-up Capital: Minimum paid-up capital of RM500,000.
  3. Work Experience: Extensive work experience and high level of technical skills.
  4. Projects: Capable of undertaking projects with a value not exceeding RM10 million.
  1. Ownership of Company: Not restricted to Bumiputera.
  2. Paid-up Capital: Minimum paid-up capital of RM750,000.
  3. Work Experience: Extensive work experience and advanced technical skills.
  4. Projects: No maximum project value limit.
