How long does the renewal take for foreign workers?

The digital Temporary Pass is sent by email within 3-4 working days once complete documents are submitted. Since December 2023, CIDB no longer prints physical cards automatically.

Is a new medical check-up needed for renewal?

It depends on the FOMEMA report date. If the health report is more than 6 months old, a new medical check-up is required. We will advise after reviewing your documents.

What if the work permit is close to expiring?

The work permit must be valid for at least 3 months from the application date. If it is close to expiring, the work permit must be renewed first before proceeding with the Green Card renewal.

Does the employer need to be involved?

Yes. The employer must provide the CIDB Company ID and Password and ensure the company has a valid CIDB registration. We will coordinate with the employer for a smooth process.

Can I apply if the passport has been replaced?

Yes, but the old passport (expired/damaged) must be provided as a reference. The Immigration Department must first verify the transfer of the work permit to the new passport.

When do I need to pay?

No payment is required when submitting the form. A Rentaka officer will review your permit first, then confirm the final price via WhatsApp or email.

For foreign workers employed in Malaysia, the CIDB Green Card is a mandatory document. The card's validity period is based on the worker's visa/permit period — it is not a year option you choose. Make sure the work permit is still active before applying for renewal.

Since December 2023, CIDB no longer prints physical cards automatically. You will receive a digital Temporary Pass by email within 3-4 working days, which is valid for working on construction sites.

Important Notes

CIDB Company ID: the employer must provide the CIDB Company ID and Password for a foreign worker renewal application.
The work permit must still be active — valid for at least 3 months from the application date.
Applications can be submitted as early as 60 days (2 months) before your Green Card expires.
Smart Card upgrade: older green cards will be upgraded to the new Smart Card with a gold chip. New card holders are not eligible for another physical card application within 5 years.
